About ATGP/FM

The Association of Teachers in General Practice / Family Medicine was founded in October 27, 1998. The activities of the Association are based on improvement and development of education in the field of general practice/family medicine in compliance with development of science and guidelines from WHO documents and documents of EURACT and AMEE.

The basic tasks of ATGP/FM are development and implementation of theoretical knowledge and practice of medical education, life-long teacher training in the field of family medicine and development of research and publishing activities in the field of family medicine. The Association is a network of teachers and associates in medical schools and related schools who show active interest in training issues of general practice/family medicine. The Association is open for membership to other professionals who show active interest in the field as well.

The Association develops international cooperation with similar associations worldwide. This is accomplished through participation of members of the Association on conferences and trainings, memberships and participations in EURACT and AMEE and longtime active and fruitful cooperation with Institute for Development of Family Medicine from Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Goals and activities

The goals of the Association of teachers in general practice / family medicine (ATGP/FM)
are improvement and further development of teaching, scientific research and professional activities in general practice / family medicine.

Activities of ATGP/FM

  • Development and application of new teaching methods
  • Initiating measures for improvement of teaching process
  • Evaluation of effectiveness of teaching process
  • Organization of conferences and courses for improvement of education
  • Encouraging the involvement of students in the process of improvement and development of education
  • Publication of books and magazines in the field of teaching, scientific and professional activities
  • Developing the programs of international cooperation
  • Organization of professional meetings and scientific conferences
  • Cooperation with professional organizations dealing with family medicine in Croatia and abroad
  • Improvement and implementation of scientific and research activities in the area of family medicine, especially medical education
  • Execution of other activities relevant to improvement and development of education in the field of family medicine

Membership

There are two kinds of memberships in ATGP/FM: regular and honorary

Regular member are:

  • Teachers and associates in medical and related schools who show active interest in training issues of general practice/family medicine
  • Students of medical and related schools who show interest in training issues of general practice/family medicine
  • Other experts and professionals who show interest in training issues of general practice/family medicine

Honorary members of ATGP/FM are individuals who made significant contribution to the development of medical education in Croatia as a whole.
